(March 18-19, 2004, Baguio City)
The outsourcing of work and services and the rapid turnover of jobs are painful realities in the world of work under economic globalization and trade liberalization. These are the most common consequences of organizational efforts of companies to remain viable in an increasingly difficult and competitive economic environment.
A special Seminar entitled “Do’s and Don’ts in the Outsourcing of Work and in the Termination of Employee Services” was co-sponsored by the National Academy on Voluntary Arbitration (NAVA), the training and education arm of the Philippine Association on Voluntary Arbitration, Inc., and the CAR Association of Labor and Management Advocates, Inc (CALMA). The NCMB-Voluntary Arbitration Division, the NCMB-CAR and the PMAP Baguio-Benguet Chapter joined in coordinating the activity.
Many companies often forget or do not fully comprehend the legal and the non-legal dimensions of outsourcing and termination. It is in this context that the NAVA teamed up with the Baguio local associations, in order to educate labor and management in the do’s and don’ts of these realities as well as on how to soften the impact and prepare the parties in managing transition programs for the benefit of affected workers.
Forty-four (44) labor and management representatives who are mostly HR/IR professionals and Union leaders participated in the affair. The battery of speakers included NAVA President Rene E. Ofreneo, UP-SOLAIR Professors Jorge V. Sibal and Nicolas B. Barriatos. NCMB Deputy Executive Director Reynaldo R. Ubaldo delivered the closing message.
