Labor dispute at International School of Manila Ends
A total of US$3.8 million economic package payable in three years capped the settlement of the planned auction of the school properties in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on Monday.
The dispute ended after the school (ISM) president, Robert Ayes and school union (ISAE) president, Raquel Ching inked an agreement on September 4, 2005 before the DOLE in the presence of NCMB Executive Director Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
Under the agreement, ISM shall pay the amount of US$1.9 million to ISAE
within 60 days from execution of the agreement. The other half of the settled amount shall be paid in tranches starting in November 1, 2006 at US$500,000 and in the next two years at US$650,000 and US$750,000, respectively.
Cacdac reported to Secretary Sto. Tomas that both parties also agreed that all legal actions, cases, complaints, motions on pending incident in relation to GR No. 128845 pending before all courts, quasi-judicial bodies and the DOLE shall be deemed settled and/or withdrawn.
He added that both parties also agreed that all garnishments, legal actions and other pending incidents in relation to the said Supreme Court resolution shall be deemed lifted and/or withdrawn. Any amount subject of garnishment released and turned over to DOLE-NCR in relation to G.R. No. 128845 shall accrue and be deemed as partial payment of the down payment of US$1.9 million.
The DOLE National Capital Region under Director Ricardo Martinez shall immediately turn over the said fund to the ISAE, Cacdac said.
It was also specified in the agreement that there
shall be no retaliatory action by any of the parties against the other. Julia P. Peleo
