NCMB CELEBRATES 20th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

The National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) celebrates its 20th anniversary today with the theme “20 Years of Building Workplace Harmony towards National Stability and Progress”.

The celebrations starts with the blessing of the offices of NCMB-NCR and NCMB CO. This is followed by the unveiling of the photo gallery of former and current Executive Directors of the Board and a thanksgiving mass officiated by Fr. Eric Adoviso.

Also, as part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the Board is giving out plaques of recognition to its former Administrators/Executive Directors and Certificates of Appreciation to its employees who have been with the organization since its inception.

NCMB was created on 04 January 1998 as an agency attached to the Department of Labor and Employment by virtue of Executive Order 126, by then President Corazon C. Aquino as an answer to the growing unrest in the labor relations front.

In the early years of its existence, the Board managed to reverse the rising tension in the industrial front and made significant gains in taming the hostile labor movement. As a result, the number of industrial strikes went down significantly in the ensuing years.

In the last three years, Philippine industrial relations reached a level of stability never before seen in Philippine labor relations history with 25 strikes in 2005, 12 strikes in 2006 and only six strikes in 2007.

The celebration was graced by past and present DOLE senior officials headed by Secretary Arturo D. Brion, who congratulated and thanked the NCMB for its outstanding performance.

Former Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, NCMB’s first Administrator and a recipient of the Plaque of Recognition, also graced the occasion and encouraged the Board to continue its task of cultivating meaningful relationship in the labor relations front.

Executive Director Reynaldo R. Ubaldo thanked  Secretary Brion for his all out support to the Board, and expressed his optimism that the stable industrial relations climate being enjoyed by the country will continue for a  long time.
