Four hundred
eleven members of the Silliman University Faculties Association stand to benefit
from the settlement of the Notice of strike filed by their union against
the university, according to NCMB RB7 Director Edmundo Mirasol.
In a report to DOLE
Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz, Undersecretary for Labor Relations and
Officer-in-charge of NCMB Hans Leo J. Cacdac said that the notice of strike
filed by the union was settled through conciliation-mediation on November 14,
2011. The union filed a notice of strike alleging bargaining deadlock last 26
September, 2011.
“The parties agreed to a
CBA package amounting to P 30M, which features across-the board salary
increases, summer pay, emergency loan, and non-cumulative founder’s day bonus.”
Director Mirasol said. The new CBA will retroact to June 2011 and will be in
effect until May 31, 2014.
Both parties likewise
agreed to remand the issues on overload, tuition discount, retirement pay, and
regularization to the LMC and Grievance Machinery. They likewise reaffirmed
their conformance to the Joint Covenant of Partnership and Mutual Support.
Silliman University is an educational
institution for elementary, secondary, tertiary, and post graduate studies. It
is located in Dumaguete City and has more or less 8,000 enrollees for school
year 2011 – 2012. The school currently has 750 employees.
Baldoz commended RCMB
director Edmund Mirasol and Con-med Rose Oxinio for facilitating the
settlement.
“The prompt response of
the RCMB 7 in looking after the needs of the parties mirrors our determination
to explore every possible means for amicable settlement so disputes don’t
escalate into full blown work stoppages, “ Baldoz said.
“It is also in keeping
with our efforts to maintain the status of the Philippine as the industrial
peace hub of Asia,” she added.
